Infant Severely Abused: Father Arrested in Shocking Cherokee County Case

Cherokee County detectives have arrested John Azzolino, 35, of Woodstock, on charges of aggravated battery and first-degree cruelty to children following a disturbing case of infant abuse. Authorities responded to Scottish Rite Hospital on Monday after receiving a report of a potentially abused 10-week-old female infant.

The infant, currently in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, suffered severe injuries to her mouth and throat, along with multiple broken bones in her legs, ribs, and ankles. The alarming extent of her injuries prompted immediate action by hospital staff and law enforcement.

After conducting interviews with both parents, detectives arrested Azzolino. He faces two counts of aggravated battery and first-degree cruelty to children, with additional charges likely as the investigation progresses. Azzolino is being held without bond.

The child’s mother, who is cooperating with the investigation, has not been charged. The couple’s 3-year-old child has been placed in the custody of the Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS) to ensure their safety during the ongoing investigation.
