Fatal I-275 Collision: Man, 57, Dies After Getting Pinned Under Truck

According to a notice from the Springdale police and the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, a man, who was 57 years old, passed away on Friday morning while standing on the emergency shoulder of Interstate 275.

The crash that happened on the ramp from westbound I-275 to Springfield Pike was the cause of death for Darren Hayes, a resident of Miamisburg.

The 2014 Kenworth truck that Hayes was driving became disabled at around 10:17 a.m. Off the main road, on the right shoulder, he left his truck parked. He got out of his vehicle and stood next to it.

As it left the main road and reached the emergency shoulder, the vehicle was following a 2023 Volvo tractor and semi-truck down the exit ramp. Disabled Kenworth was involved in the collision with the Volvo.

Hayes was thrown to the ground and ensnared beneath the right rear tires of the Kenworth after the collision’s impact.

As soon as word spread that Hayes had passed away, the Springdale Fire Department rushed to the site.

The 62-year-old Gustavus, Indiana native Keith Schnur is behind the wheel of the Volvo. He escaped harm unscathed.

The collision is being investigated by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office’s Traffic Safety Unit.
