The NYPD is on the hunt for a woman who brutally stabbed 22-year-old Jordin Walston to death in Midtown on Tuesday night. The deadly confrontation, which stemmed from an argument between two women, was caught on camera and has left the community in shock.
The video shows a group of people, including two children, walking down West 40th Street. Moments later, the attacker approaches Walston, and a violent fight ensues. As onlookers stood by, the attacker repeatedly stabbed Walston in the chest. The street quickly transformed into a crime scene as Walston took her final breath.
The incident occurred around 10:15 p.m. and has left many questioning the safety of New York City. Juan Hernandez, a New York resident, expressed his concerns to Eyewitness News, stating, “The city is unsafe. But it’s not like it used to be. I mean before we did have crime obviously but not to this magnitude. It’s overpopulated with homelessness (and) mental health issues so it gets chaotic. One argument to another and then it leads to this.”
Walston, a resident of Morningside Heights, was with her boyfriend at the time of the attack. She was pronounced dead at the hospital shortly after.
Police have described the suspect as a woman wearing a white shirt and blue jeans, seen fleeing down 8th Avenue. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
