Marietta Couple Charges Serious: Charged with Child Molestation and Other Offenses

A grand jury has indicted a couple in a startling case that is roiling the Marietta community on counts of child abuse and molestation, among other major crimes. Accused of horrible crimes, Brian Deshawn Phillips, 46, and Elizabeth Anne Cooley, 23, molested an underage girl over a two-year period in an extended-stay hotel on Canton Road, close to the Canton Road Connector and Interstate 75.

There are twenty-seven counts in all against Phillips and Cooley. Among these include first-degree cruelty to children, rape, trafficking people for sexual service, and aggravated child molestation. The indictment describes a dismal picture of systemic abuse and claims that Phillips in particular committed several crimes against minor girls in several Cobb County locations.

Arrest warrants for Phillips state that he is accused of coercing a minor under the age of sixteen to have sex with him at the Canton Road hotel between January 2021 and July 2023. He also faces allegations that he sexually abused other minors at a busbee Parkway extended-stay hotel, an apartment building in Smyrna, and other locations in Kennesaw and Marietta. Strangely, Phillips is also charged with burglary for allegedly entering a woman’s house and sexually abusing her.

In the meantime, Cooley is charged with helping Phillips with one of these deeds between January 2021 and January 2022. Her gravity in these unsettling actions is highlighted by the charges against her.

Additionally charged in a different indictment are possession of more than an ounce of marijuana and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. With its disclosure of Phillips’ criminal past and possible engagement in illicit operations outside the purview of the molestation claims, this indictment further complicates the judicial processes.
