Two Major Furniture Retailers Declare Bankruptcy, Closing All Stores

Amid mounting financial struggles and rising debt, two well-known furniture retailers have filed for bankruptcy and are shutting down all their locations.

Both Conn’s and Badcock have begun liquidation sales as they prepare to close every store nationwide.

Badcock’s Sudden Bankruptcy Leaves Customers Frustrated

Badcock, a 120-year-old furniture company, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy at the end of July, leaving many customers frustrated and confused when their pending orders couldn’t be fulfilled.

One customer expressed their disappointment, saying,
“I signed the paperwork on Tuesday, and by Wednesday, the company had filed for bankruptcy. How could no one see this coming?”

The Badcock location in Bonifay, Florida, echoed similar sentiments, posting:
“After 120 years in business, Badcock Home Furnishings & More is closing all locations. We are just as shocked and heartbroken as you are. It feels like losing a member of our family. We have prayed more in the past three days than ever before.”

Conn’s Acquisition and Its Own Struggles

In 2022, Conn’s Furniture acquired Badcock, but what many didn’t realize was that Conn’s was already struggling financially. The Bonifay location’s statement compared the situation to two sinking ships going down together.

According to Conn’s official website, every store under its name is also shutting down.

Final Liquidation Sales and Business Closure

Both Conn’s and Badcock locations are holding liquidation sales as they prepare to close their doors permanently. While they are still shipping products, they have discontinued all financing options.

Although some locations will shut down earlier, all stores are expected to close by the end of October.
