The Cherokee Association of Realtors (CAOR) kicked off the building of its Habitat for Humanity home on Saturday, September 7th. In addition to beginning construction of the home on Lyndee Lane in Woodstock, it served as a “September 11th Day of Service and Remembrance event” for Habitat for Humanity.
The event included guest speaker Georgia State Representative, Michael Caldwell, presentation of the colors by local boy scouts, and several moments of silence throughout the ceremony and build day to coincide with the times the planes went down on September 11, 2001. Also attending the ceremony were Bud Leonard, City Council Member and representatives of the Woodstock fire department.
The ceremony culminated in the First Nail celebration for Melanie Palffy and her family as they begin construction on her new home. Many of the attendees at the event will be volunteered for the day to help build the Palffy home. Melanie is a single mother of two children, Heaven (10) and Holden (5). Melanie has worked as a medical assistant at a local healthcare facility for four years and is pursuing a degree from the Chattahoochee Technical College. Habitat could not build the home without the support from the sponsors who will not only provide the funds but also the volunteer labor.
The CAOR acting as lead sponsor for this event has committed to raising $80,000 for this project. Currently $18,000 short of this goal, fundraising teams from the CAOR including Becky Babcock and Susan West of ERA Sunrise Realty and Michael Pennington of Century 21 Maxsell Real Estate are working diligently to raise the remaining dollars needed prior to completion of the home. The project has also enjoyed the participation of several real estate related sponsors including Hartman-Imbriale, McCalla Raymer and Windsong Properties. They are also enjoying support from individuals as well as large corporate sponsors including Verizon. With all this teamwork, the Palffy family is expected to move in to their new home in December.
