The former Georgia police officer, Grant Matthew Shaw, turned himself in to authorities to confront charges related to the fatal shooting of Emmanuel Millard, a 20-year-old man. The incident occurred following a police chase on October 12, 2023, in Cherokee County.
Millard attempted to evade police after being signaled to pull over for multiple traffic infractions in Woodstock. The pursuit ended in Cobb County after officers executed a Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT), causing Millard’s vehicle to crash.
According to reports, as officers tried to apprehend Millard, Shaw shot him in the head. Despite efforts to save him, Millard passed away two days later in a local hospital. The indictment accuses Shaw of causing Millard’s death through reckless conduct, pointing a firearm at him with his finger on the trigger.
Andrew Lampros, the Millard family’s attorney, disclosed that footage from police body cameras depicted Millard complying with officers’ instructions before Shaw’s fatal shot.
Shaw resigned from the Woodstock Police Department a week after the shooting, where he had served since 2021. An independent investigation conducted by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation led to Shaw’s indictment on charges of involuntary manslaughter.
Millard’s parents expressed their anguish, demanding justice for their son’s untimely death. They believe Shaw should face the full extent of the law for their irreparable loss.
