Big Door Vineyards, a small vineyard in the beautiful west Cherokee area, is planning to expand its services and make it even more enjoyable for visitors. On April 16, the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing to discuss Big Door Vineyards’ requested zoning changes.
Operating under a special use permit for a farm winery since June 2020, Big Door Vineyards is situated on roughly 17 acres at 125 Clearwater Trail in White. However, there are significant restrictions in place. Nevertheless, the county is contemplating revising these terms to allow for the growth of the winery’s facilities, in light of changing customer tastes and market tendencies.
With some limitations, Big Door Vineyards would be able to sell craft beer on the grounds as part of the planned modifications. The changes also aim to make it possible to serve alcohol anywhere on the site, not only in the tasting area.
The goal of this change is to give customers more freedom to enjoy their drinks while taking in the beautiful scenery. In addition, there are plans to install outdoor loudspeakers that must be in accordance with the county’s noise ordinance.
There will also be restrictions put in place to make sure that the winery’s operations and the properties nearby are not disturbed. Lastly, there will be mobile food services and food trucks. Zoning regulations were set in 2020 and outline stringent rules for things like food trucks, loud sound, and the sale and service of alcoholic beverages.
The proposed changes, however, are an attempt to find a middle ground between encouraging company expansion and protecting the area’s peace and quiet, in light of the changing nature of the hospitality and tourist industries.
The Cherokee County Conference Center in Canton will host a public hearing on April 16 at 6 p.m., when members of the community will have a chance to express their thoughts and feelings about the modifications that are being suggested.
