Xfinity to Resume Braves Broadcasts This Week Following Bally Sports Dispute

Atlanta Braves fans can breathe a sigh of relief as Braves games make their return to Xfinity cable services this week. After a frustrating three-month blackout, a new agreement between Xfinity and Bally Sports has resolved the dispute that led to the suspension of Braves broadcasts and other sports programming.

The blackout began on May 1, when Comcast, the parent company of Xfinity, and Diamond Sports, which operates Bally Sports, failed to reach a new contract agreement. This dispute not only disrupted Braves fans’ ability to watch their team but also impacted viewers of several other Major League Baseball teams. Fans of the Miami Marlins, Tampa Bay Rays, Detroit Tigers, Cleveland Guardians, Minnesota Twins, Kansas City Royals, St. Louis Cardinals, Cincinnati Reds, Milwaukee Brewers, Texas Rangers, and Los Angeles Angels also faced interruptions in their local sports coverage.

“We appreciate Diamond Sports working with us to reach a solution that returns the Bally Sports RSNs to our Ultimate TV customers in a way that reflects the changing video marketplace for local sports,” said Greg Rigdon, President of Content Acquisition for Comcast, in a statement to the Associated Press. Rigdon expressed gratitude for the resolution, emphasizing the importance of returning beloved sports content to viewers.

Beginning Thursday, August 1, Braves games will once again be available to Xfinity Ultimate TV package customers. In addition to traditional cable broadcasts, viewers can also stream Bally Sports content via the Bally Sports app, providing flexibility for fans who prefer to watch games on their mobile devices or other digital platforms.

The resolution of this dispute marks a significant win for sports fans who had been missing out on crucial games and updates during the prolonged blackout. The agreement ensures that Xfinity customers will once again have access to a full slate of baseball games and other sports programming, reflecting the changing dynamics of sports media and viewer preferences.
