Ronald DeSantisha has a long list of ridiculous incidents and scandals on his career, but that hasn’t stopped Donald Trump from considering him as his choice for Secretary of Defense.
The president-elect may replace his current Secretary of Defense nominee, Pete Hegseth, whose nomination is under scrutiny due to disturbing allegations, including his maltreatment of women, according to Knewz.com.
Sources claim that DeSantis might be the next in line if Hegseth is fired, although the governor of Florida has had his share of contentious incidents, such as his more than year-long feud with Disney.
It all began when DeSantis accused Disney of spreading “woke” ideology and showing youngsters unsuitable content after the House of Mouse openly opposed the state’s “Don’t Say Gay” policy regarding school discussions of sexuality and gender identity.
Through legislation supported by state politicians, DeSantis then formed a new board of supervisors and assumed control of Disney’s self-governing district, which it used to operate its theme park, Disney World, in Florida.
The 46-year-old was sued by Disney, which claimed the legislator ran a “targeted campaign of government retaliation” and that the large corporation’s free speech rights had been infringed.
Disney’s lawsuit was eventually rejected by a judge, and in July 2022, all sides approved a settlement that agreed to abandon the other state-wide litigation they had brought against one other.
DeSantis gained notoriety for opposing “woke” politics, prohibiting public universities from utilizing state or federal funds for diversity initiatives, and limiting instruction on critical race theory.
At the signing event, demonstrators made fun of him for signing the funding bill into law at New College of Florida.
When it comes to climate change, DeSantis is likewise against maintaining consistency. He committed to “oppose legislation relating to climate change that includes a net increase in government revenue” when he signed the pledge in 2013. But eight years later, he presented a strategy for the Sunshine state to start tackling the consequences of global warming.
DeSantis then signed a bill in 2024 that removed climate change from state law.
DeSantis launched his bid for the Republican presidential nomination in May of last year, much to the dismay of Trump loyalists. After failing to make any headway in the polls, he dropped his presidential bid and endorsed Trump a few months later, which again sparked mockery.
Despite this, DeSantis might end up playing a significant role because, according to one source, he is still in the running for the position of Secretary of Defense.
According to another insider, up to six GOP senators oppose Hegseth’s appointment.
In 2017, Fox News star Hegseth was accused of sexually abusing a woman; however, he was never charged and instead struck a settlement with her.
Hegseth maintains that his interaction with the lady who accused him of sexual assault was consensual and has denied ever mistreating women.
