A disturbing attack at a Midtown subway station has left the NYPD looking for assistance in identifying the offender. Friday, April 19 at 8:15 a.m., the event happened on the southbound 6 platform of the 28th Street Station.
The guy reportedly came up behind a 58-year-old woman who was waiting on the station. The suspect suddenly, and without warning, shoved her hard against the wall and then punched her in the face. The attacker left the victim hurt and quite uneasy as they fled on foot after the attack.
Quickly arriving at the scene, emergency personnel sent the victim to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue for minor injury care. While her injuries were not life-threatening, it is impossible to overestimate the emotional toll of such an unjustified attack.
The NYPD has made security video public in an effort to find the person who committed this horrible act of violence. Whatever seemingly small information could be very important in identifying the offender and getting the victim justice.
Random acts of violence in public areas make people uncomfortable and afraid, both residents and commuters. Especially when going about daily business like waiting for a subway train, feeling exposed to these kinds of attacks compromises the feeling of security and safety in our neighborhoods.
Locals can anonymously submit information and support law enforcement efforts by calling the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). By cooperation between the public and the authorities, we can fight crime and guarantee the welfare of every citizen.
It is vital that authorities take action to improve security and discourage such incidents in the future in public transportation areas in addition to capturing the offender in this upsetting episode. Both commuters and locals can live in safer environments with more attention, patrols, and surveillance.
