After being discovered naked in an elementary school classroom with a variety of reportedly “disturbing” objects and narcotics, a Florida teacher was arrested on Thanksgiving night.
According to information obtained by Knewz.com, the instructor was apprehended by the authorities as they were reacting to a burglary alarm that had been set off within the school.
Responding police described the incident, which took place at the Windmill Point Elementary School in the city of Port St. Lucie, Florida, as “deeply unsettling.”
The primary school authorities discovered 34-year-old instructor Joe Urias naked in a classroom with a variety of strange objects, including a laptop, sex toys, and women’s underwear, when reacting to an alarm that indicated a possibility was occurring on the school’s grounds.
In addition, it was reported that Urias had constructed a makeshift bed in the classroom and was in possession of marijuana and a number of food items.
According to reports, the teacher attempted to hastily get dressed and flee from the police after realizing he had been spotted.
When Urias nearly got up to one of the deputies, he hit him in the face, which further exacerbated the situation.
According to reports, the deputy was still able to halt Urias and detain him until help arrived and he was brought into custody.
Deputy Eric Holbert of St. Lucie County, one of the several cops in the county who reside on school property, described the entire event, stating that the “more it unfolded, the weirder it got.”
Additionally, according to Deputy Holbert, Urias’ “makeshift bed” was actually “a large pillow that kids sleep on,” and there was “some sort of stain on that.”
“He was naked when I saw him,” Holbert stated in a statement.
Holbert described the specifics of the pursuit that followed after the instructor attempted to flee, saying:
“I raised both of my hands, introduced myself, and yelled, Deputy Sheriff, stop! He tried to push past me after saying, “No, bro.” He struck me in the lip during our brief altercation, and I struck him in the jaw before using a seatbelt and jiu-jitsu to keep him in place.”
Although he added that he did not “even want to get into” the “vulgarity” of the incident, Port St. Lucie Police Chief Leo Niemczyk noted that there were no children on the property at the time of the incident because it was nighttime and over the Thanksgiving holidays.
There weren’t any kids there. At that moment, no one was inside the school. He was alone. Regarding the profanity, Chief Niemczyks stated, “I don’t even want to get into his head and think about what he was thinking.”
In Saint Lucie West, Florida, Urias taught at Somerset College Preparatory Academy, a secondary school. However, following the Thanksgiving night event, Urias was immediately relieved of his duties.
After the event, Somerset College Prep posted the following statement on Facebook:
“We are writing to let you know about a recent incident that came to our notice regarding accusations made against a former employee of our school that have nothing to do with our institution. Rest assured that we are assisting law enforcement in their efforts to resolve this matter.
“We want to make it clear that our community’s and our kids’ safety and wellbeing come first. All potential hires at our school go through extensive background checks and screening by the local school system as part of our dedication to upholding a safe environment. Without this clearance, we don’t recruit anyone,” the message continued.
“We have handled this matter administratively and will take all necessary actions to ensure that this individual does not return to our campus.”
