Connie Cronley, of Tulsa and Cherokee Nation, will headline a Tahlequah author event on April 13.

Tulsa-based writer and Cherokee Nation member Connie Cronley will perform at the Tahlequah Public Library on Saturday, April 13. Attendees will enjoy Cronley and 20 local and regional writers displaying their works at the Friends of the Tahlequah Public Library event.

Known for her perceptive writing and storytelling, Cronley will discuss her new book, “A Life on Fire: Oklahoma’s Kate Barnard.” In 2022, the Oklahoma Historical Society named this engaging biography of Kate Barnard Best Book of the Year. Barnard was a pioneering political reformer and social crusader who bravely defended the oppressed in Oklahoma.

Cronley worked to illuminate Barnard’s exceptional accomplishments, inspired by her late mentor, respected Oklahoma historian Angie Debo. Cronley’s almost 50 years of study commemorate Barnard and emphasize the need of maintaining and appreciating Oklahoma’s hidden heroes.

Cronley will be joined by authors from historical fiction, poetry, photography, and children’s literature for the Author Meet-and-Greet. Each author, from established to developing, will give a distinct viewpoint and plenty of literary riches for guests.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Carnegie Room at the library will host a free event for book lovers of all ages to celebrate storytelling. Patrons may meet the writers, discuss their works, and buy autographed copies.

Besides writing, Cronley is a trusted TulsaPeople columnist and KOTV’s monthly book reviewer. Cronley has written three collections of essays and a co-authored memoir, honoring her predecessors while making substantial literary additions.
