Cherokee County Students Shines in State Career Skills Contest

Cherokee County School District students recently showcased their talents at the statewide career skills competitions, demonstrating their skills and dedication in various fields. At the SkillsUSA Georgia State Leadership Conference, students from Cherokee High School’s welding program took home the top prize in the metalworking display category.

Julio Rutiaga-Gamero and Hunter Newberry, guided by their teacher Darryl Jones, impressed judges with their craftsmanship and innovation. Superintendent Mary Elizabeth Davis expressed her pride in the students’ achievements, emphasizing the importance of the Career Pathway program in preparing students for future careers.

Similarly, students from River Ridge High School excelled in the audio-video technology and film domain, securing notable placements in two events. Aidan Nemec and Davis Manwaring earned third place in the audio/radio production competition, highlighting the school’s commitment to excellence in multimedia production.

In the video news production category, Christopher Himiob, Talisha Morales, Leigha Samuel, and Mia Stiefel showcased their creativity and journalistic skills, securing a fifth place. Their advisor, James Dinsmoor, praised their dedication and talent, underscoring the rigorous training provided within the school’s program.

These victories underscore the Cherokee County School District’s dedication to providing students with diverse opportunities for career exploration and development.

With 41 career education options available, including co-curricular teams like SkillsUSA, the district remains committed to nurturing the talents of its students.
