Canton Man Found Guilty of Horrible Crimes Against a Child

Community members are still shocked by the recent conviction of Juan Nazario Lopez, a 53-year-old Canton native. A jury in Cherokee County, Georgia, found Lopez guilty on April 26 of horrible crimes like rape, incest, and severe child molesting. Today’s decision is a big step toward justice for the victim and shows that people in this community strongly reject such horrible actions.

The case started on April 16, 2023, when a worried woman called the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office. Law enforcement acted quickly after it was said that Lopez was sexually abusing a family member. Numerous family members were questioned and the victim and her younger sister were formally examined by a forensic pathologist.

During the four-day hearing, an impressive array of proof and witnesses’ statements were shown to the judges. Law enforcement officers, experts on how child sexual abuse works, people who know how to do forensic interviews, and, most importantly, the victim and her sister were among them. Senior Assistant District Attorney Meaghan Frankish from the office’s Special Victims Unit skillfully handled the case, making sure that the victims’ traumatized views were heard.
