Bill Maher ‘May Quit’ HBO

Bill Maher, a well-known political talk show host and political analyst, recently announced that he is thinking of leaving his HBO program Real Time with Bill Maher because he does not want to continue covering Donald Trump.

According to information obtained by Knewz.com, Maher’s political talk show was renewed for two more seasons by Warner Bros. Discovery and HBO in March 2024, despite his discussions.

In an interview with renowned actress and political activist Jane Fonda on the Club Random podcast, the comedian, author, and political analyst disclosed his desire to leave Real Time with Bill Maherin.

In the Fonda interview, Maher said he was tired of reporting on (and criticizing) the Trump administration for another four years.

In addition, he claimed to have previously done “all the Trump stuff” and said he was the first to criticize the president-elect before “anyone else.”

When Maher interviewed the actress, he stated:

“I mean, I might give up… I’d rather not do another Trump, I did. I was the first to complete all of the Trump-related tasks. I was the first to brand him a phony. He’s amafiaboss; I did. It was me who said that he would not give up the election. I’ve completed it.

“Well then how come he’s so hostile to Jimmy Kimmeland not to you?” Fonda interrupted at this point. referring to the “feud” between Trump and the host of the late-night show.

In this context, it is noteworthy that comedian Trevor Noah hypothesized during an October appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live that Trump becomes so “triggered” by Kimmel because the late-night comedy host was well-known in the years when the president-elect was “focused on entertainment media.”

“This is what I’ve observed. When Trump focused on the media, his level of annoyance with people was exactly related to their size. Does that make sense? Noah stated when speaking with Kimmel.

For example, Time magazine continues to be the most significant aspect of his existence. And naturally, Jimmy Kimmel on Saturday Night Live gets very upset if someone insults him,” Noah continued.

“He’s very hostile to me,” the political talk show host remarked in response to Fonda’s inquiry over Trump’s “hostility” against Maher. Every week, he tweets about me. He unintentionally watches my show every week and declares, “Low ratings, loser!” I find it boring.

“The politics are the spectacle. Nothing else exists. And, as usual, he will dominate the news,” Maher continued.

It has been noted that Trump made news in September when he attacked Maher on his Truth Social platform for hosting Bret Stephens, an opinion columnist for the New York Times, and Stephanie Ruhle of MSNBC on Real Time with Bill Maher.

Stephens called Trump a “very scary guy” and “antisemitic adjacent” after discussing Trump’s alleged “antisemitic remarks” at a rally in Washington, D.C., where he said that “the Jewish people would have a lot to do with that” if he lost the 2024 presidential race.

He added that whenever antisemitism emerges, democracy is under danger.

Trump launched a ferocious outburst on his Truth Social platform in response to the episode, writing:

“Bill Maher is struggling to deal with Trump derangement syndrome, as evidenced by the ratings of his progressively dull HBO show. Every conversation he has with guests on the B and C lists seems to begin with or return to “ME.” He is a confused mess who is sloppy and exhausted.

The then-Republican presidential candidate described Stephens as a “Trump hating loser” and dubbed Ruhle a “bimbo” in the article. He also said that the “FAILING New York Times is a badly run ‘newspaper'” that ought to be “put to sleep.”

According to sources, the political analyst’s talk show was renewed by HBO and Warner Bros. Discovery for two more seasons, putting Maher on the book until at least 2026, even though he recently stated in an interview with Fonda that he is thinking about leaving Real Time.

“Two more years in the dream job of a lifetime, on the network so many dream of being on,” Maher was reported as saying at the time. “I think that’s what we call a no-brainer.”
