In a troubling development from Cherokee County, Mayme Allen, a 21-year-old former preschool teacher, has been arrested and charged with multiple counts of child abuse. Allen, who worked at Big Blue Marble Academy in Canton, faces three charges of cruelty to children and one charge of battery, following allegations of abuse reported on August 8, 2024.
Allen’s arrest came after disturbing reports of her mistreatment of toddlers at the preschool. According to arrest warrants, Allen was accused of grabbing a child by the arms repeatedly, causing bruises, and forcefully pushing a child’s chair into a table, which resulted in injuries. The accusations led to her being taken into custody on August 12, with a $25,000 bond set for her release from the Cherokee County Jail.
The preschool responded to the allegations with a statement emphasizing their commitment to child safety. They confirmed that Allen was terminated from her position following an internal investigation and that they reported the incident to local authorities. The school has vowed to continue cooperating fully with law enforcement and licensing authorities as the investigation proceeds.
