A jury has convicted former Doraville police officer Miles Bryant of the kidnapping and murder of 16-year-old Susana Morales. Channel 2’s Tom Regan reported from the Gwinnett County Courthouse on Wednesday, where the defense suggested Morales may have died from a drug overdose—an assertion prosecutors dismissed as nonsense.
Prosecutor Brandon Delfunt argued that Bryant betrayed his badge on July 26, 2022, by kidnapping Morales, attempting to rape her, and then discarding her lifeless body in the woods off Highway 316. Delfunt described Bryant as a “monster” and “sexual deviant,” detailing how he disposed of Morales’ phone and ultimately killed her in Dacula.
Despite Bryant’s defense attorney, Tracy Drake, contending that there was no evidence of murder, kidnapping, or rape, the jury found otherwise. Delfunt highlighted Bryant’s deceit, noting that he falsely reported his handgun stolen, only for it to be discovered near Morales’ remains seven months after her disappearance.

Bryant’s defense maintained there was no proof of malice or intent to kill. Nevertheless, the conviction stands, and Bryant faces life in prison without parole. Delfunt concluded, “The reality is it has come to light and he faces justice now.”
