The Kennesaw State University community is in mourning following the tragic death of 21-year-old junior Amanda Collins, who was killed in a car accident late Friday night. Amanda, a beloved biology major with dreams of attending medical school, was known for her infectious positivity and dedication to her studies.
The fatal crash occurred around 11:45 PM on a local highway when Amanda’s vehicle was struck by a speeding car that lost control. The driver of the other vehicle, who sustained minor injuries, has been charged with reckless driving and vehicular manslaughter, according to police reports.
Amanda’s passing has left a deep void in the hearts of her family, friends, and the entire KSU community. Her professors and peers remember her as a “bright, shining light” whose enthusiasm and kindness touched everyone she met. “Amanda was a remarkable student and an even more remarkable person. Her loss is a profound tragedy for all of us,” said Dr. Emily Harris, one of her professors.
To honor Amanda’s life and achievements, a memorial service is being planned on campus. Her sorority sisters and friends are organizing a candlelight vigil, where they will share memories and celebrate her life.
University President Dr. Pamela Whitten expressed her condolences, stating, “The Kennesaw State community is heartbroken over the loss of Amanda Collins. We extend our deepest sympathies to her family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.”
In response to the tragedy, counseling services have been made available to students and staff. Additionally, a scholarship fund in Amanda’s name is being established to support other aspiring biology students.
As the investigation into the accident continues, authorities are urging witnesses to come forward with any information. Amanda’s family is seeking justice and hopes her story will raise awareness about the dangers of reckless driving.
