With its April Brown Bag Concert Series, Powder Springs, a picturesque city known for its vivacious community spirit, is adding a musical touch to lunchtime gatherings. Residents and visitors equally are entertained this month at Thurman Springs Park every Thursday during their midday break with live music.
The series commenced in a grand fashion with the Bottoms Up Duo, whose renditions of timeless rock songs captivated the audience. With the proficient guitar playing of George Price and the soulful vocals of Chuck Hewatt, revered songs by legendary artists such as Lynyrd Skynyrd, Chuck Berry, and The Eagles were brought to life. Notwithstanding the pleasant weather, participants were treated to a delightful afternoon of music, which served as a warm-up for a monthlong series of captivating performances.
The event coordinator for the city, Michele Coursey, explained that the expanded spring edition of the Brown Bag Concert Series was inspired by this. After the resounding success of the September series in 2023, which was traditionally held on Thursdays, the municipality made the decision to expand the musical celebrations to encompass the spring and autumn seasons as well. “This is our inaugural springtime endeavor,” Coursey remarked, emphasizing the ecstatic reception of the initiative from the community.
Audiences can anticipate forthcoming concerts that will feature an extensive variety of musical genres and talents. Arkose, who performs on April 11, blends iconic rock, jazz, hip-hop, and R&B to create an original musical fusion. Guests will have the opportunity to savor exquisite delights provided by a food truck, which will enrich the concert experience by harmonizing with the music.
On April 18, Sons-N-Britches will perform for an audience captivated by a fusion of traditional country, rock, and blues in the southern manner. Established in Kennesaw, this energetic ensemble has performed alongside esteemed artists such as Travis Tritt and Kenny Chesney, thereby assuring the audience of an indelible evening that embodies the essence of southern music.
On April 25, Sonya Shell, a singer-songwriter whose Americana music fuses elements of folk, blues, and country, will perform to conclude the series. The evocative lyrics and emotive compositions of Shell are certain to grace the conclusion of a month-long musical celebration in Powder Springs.
