A 22-year-old man has been charged with driving under the influence after crashing an SUV into a home in Woodstock, narrowly missing an elderly resident inside.
Authorities say Keven J. Walton was taken into custody following the Thursday evening crash in the 2400 block of Applewood Lane. Emergency crews from the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District and local police responded to the scene around 7:58 p.m. after reports of a vehicle striking a house.
When crews arrived, they found that the SUV had slammed into the corner of a residence near the chimney, causing moderate damage to both the home and the vehicle. The house sits at the intersection of Aspen Drive and Applewood Lane.
Inside the home was an elderly woman who was seated just inches from where the vehicle crashed. Despite the close call, she was not injured.
Investigators say Walton showed clear signs of impairment, including slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, and difficulty maintaining balance. Field sobriety tests indicated multiple signs of intoxication, and officers reported his blood alcohol concentration at 0.220—nearly three times the legal limit.
He now faces multiple charges, including two counts of DUI, driving on a suspended license, failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash, and illegal transportation of alcohol.
Walton declined medical treatment at the scene and was later released on pre-trial conditions. He is scheduled to appear in court on April 9 for a plea hearing.
Officials also called in utility crews to address a minor gas leak caused by the crash, while building inspectors assessed the damage. Authorities confirmed the home remains safe to live in.
Court records indicate Walton lives next door to the home he struck and has prior cases related to driving on a suspended license.
Fire crews stayed at the scene for several hours to assist with cleanup and ensure the homeowner had the necessary support following the incident.
