The decision, confirmed by Spanish Defence Minister Margarita Robles, extends Madrid’s earlier refusal to allow the use of joint U.S.-Spanish military bases for missions linked to the war. Officials emphasized that Spanish territory—both land and air—will not be used to support what they describe as a unilateral military campaign.
“We do not authorize the use of airspace for any actions related to the war in Iran,” Robles said, underscoring the government’s firm stance.
Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has been one of Europe’s most outspoken critics of the conflict, labeling the U.S.-backed military actions as “illegal” and “reckless.” His government maintains that the war violates international law and risks destabilizing an already volatile region.
