Despite his prior pledges to refrain from using his administrative authority for his family’s benefit, President Joe Biden has granted his son Hunter Biden a “full and unconditional pardon” with just months left in his presidency.
With the presidential pardon, the younger Biden has been cleared of federal weapons and tax evasion charges, according to Knewz.com.
“Offenses against the United States which he has committed or may have committed or participated in during the period from January 1, 2014 through December 1, 2024, including but not limited to all offenses charged or prosecuted (including any that have resulted in convictions),” according to President Biden’s pardon.
Ironically, President Biden’s formal statement about the charges mirrors President-elect Donald Trump’s “weaponization of the DoJ” story by claiming that Hunter was “selectively and unfairly prosecuted” by the Department of Justice.
Following the most recent discovery, prominent Trump spokesman Steven Cheung stated, “The failed witch hunts against President Trump have proven that theDemocrat-controlled DOJ and other radical prosecutors are guilty of weaponizing the justice system.”
“That system of justice must be fixed and due process must be restored for all Americans, which is exactly what President Trump will do as he returns to the White House with an overwhelming mandate from the American people,” Cheung said.
It’s important to remember that President Biden had earlier vowed not to pardon his son using his executive authority, and he stuck to that decision for months.
The President addressed the media in a June statement, just after Hunter was found guilty of federal firearms crimes, “I’m very proud of my son Hunter. He is no longer addicted. He is among the most intelligent and kind persons I have ever met.
“I follow the jury’s verdict. “I’ll do that, and I won’t forgive him,” he continued.
In a June interview, First Lady Jill Biden echoed her husband’s choice, saying, “Joe and I both respect the judicial system, and that’s the bottom line.”
Notably, the President’s stance on the issue remained unchanged until recently, according to White House spokesperson Andrew Bates. But according to sources, since Hunter’s conviction in June, President Biden had been talking with some of his closest advisors about pardoning his son.
In a White House news release announcing the pardon on December 1, President Biden stated:
“I signed my son Hunter’s pardon today. Even though I have witnessed my son being unfairly and selectively prosecuted, I have been true to my pledge to refrain from interfering with the Justice Department’s decision-making since the day I assumed office.
The President went on to say that Hunter was the target of politically motivated charges for “attacking” and “opposing” his election.
“People are rarely put on trial for felonies based only on how they filled out a gun form unless there are aggravating circumstances, such as use in a crime, multiple purchases, or purchasing a weapon as a straw purchaser. Non-criminal resolutions are usually granted to those who paid back their taxes later with interest and penalties after falling behind due to severe addictions. Hunter was obviously treated differently,” President Biden added in the statement that was made public.
Only when a number of my congressional rivals encouraged them to disparage me and prevent my election did the charges in his cases become a reality. Subsequently, a meticulously crafted plea agreement, approved by the Department of Justice, broke down in the courtroom, with several of my congressional rivals claiming responsibility for exerting political pressure on the proceedings,” he continued.
The President went on to say that “no reasonable person who looks at the facts of Hunter s cases can reach any other conclusion than Hunter was singled out only because he is my son and that is wrong.”
“Despite relentless attacks and selective prosecution, there has been an attempt to break Hunter, who has been clean for five and a half years. They have attempted to break me in an attempt to break Hunter, and there is no reason to think that this will end. “Enough,” said President Bidenad.

“I will never take the clemency I have been given today for granted and will devote the life I have rebuilt to helping those who are still sick and suffering,” the younger Biden, who was recently pardoned, added.
