What’s the story behind the beautiful December cover of the TowneLaker? We’ve been getting asked about the iconic photo of downtown Woodstock, and wanted to share a little about how this month’s cover came to be.
For the December cover, we had several downtown Woodstock advertisers that we wanted to feature, all businesses are located either on Main or Chambers streets. We wanted a photo that was iconic of Woodstock without showcasing one particular street or location, and ran ideas for the cover past Woodstock artist Kristina Laurendi Havens. Kristina came suggested a painting inspired by a train photo by photographer Jennifer Carter, and then added holiday touches like the blanket of snow, reminiscent of a few years ago in 2010 when we really did have a white Christmas!
The painting is part of the Woodstock series that Kristina hopes to auction off to benefit Elm Street Arts. Kristina’s studio is located at Studio 81 Portrait and Fine Art by Kristina Laurendi Havens and Ann Litrel Art, 8594 Main Street, Woodstock GA 30188. You can also view Kristina’s other works online.
If you’re in the downtown Woodstock area, be sure to visit the other businesses featured on this month’s cover!
