Taken Too Young…

March 22, 2011

Last year, Taylor Thompson lost one of his best friends, Connor Merritt. Currently a senior at Etowah High School, Taylor dedicated his senior project to the friend he lost way too soon.

Taylor organized the first Annual “Live On” Connor Merritt Memorial Bass Tournament. Connor was an avid fisherman, and to Taylor, this was the perfect way to not only honor Connor but to help the Yellow Ribbon suicide prevention program of Cherokee County.

A total of 24 boats participated with an entry fee of $125 each. First, second and third place all received cash prizes. In addition to the fishing tournament, a raffle with more than 35 prizes took place as well as the awarding of several door prizes.

Proceeds from the event netted approximately $7,000.

Watch the video to see Taylor’s project come to fruition.
