Acworth police have apprehended a suspect in connection with the recent armed robbery at a local Wendy’s restaurant. The arrest comes after a swift investigation following the incident that left employees and patrons shaken but unharmed.
The robbery occurred late Tuesday evening when a masked individual entered the Wendy’s on Main Street, brandishing a firearm and demanding cash from the register. Witnesses reported that the suspect threatened staff before fleeing the scene with an undisclosed amount of money. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the ordeal.
Detectives quickly gathered evidence and reviewed surveillance footage from the restaurant and nearby businesses. This led to the identification of a suspect, later revealed to be 28-year-old Marcus Johnson, who has a history of similar offenses.
On Thursday morning, police executed a search warrant at Johnson’s residence, where they found evidence linking him to the robbery, including the stolen cash and the firearm used in the crime. Johnson was taken into custody without incident and has been charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
Acworth Police Chief James Collins praised the officers’ rapid response and investigative work. “This arrest was the result of excellent teamwork and dedication,” he stated. “Our officers worked tirelessly to ensure the safety of our community and bring this suspect to justice.”
The Wendy’s staff and patrons expressed relief upon hearing of the arrest. “We’re grateful to the police for their quick action,” said restaurant manager Linda Carter. “It’s a relief to know the person responsible is off the streets.”
Marcus Johnson is currently being held at the Cobb County Detention Center awaiting his first court appearance. The investigation remains ongoing as police continue to gather information and explore any potential connections to other recent incidents in the area.
