We should note that this recipe was shared with our reader while she was volunteering at a children’s hospital. It was shared as a part of a high calorie diet for a child that needed to increase his calorie intake. As a result, she saw first hand how food and volunteering can make a difference! Before you chow down on this tasty game day treat, don’t forget to help those in our community that may not be fortunate enough to enjoy the big game day with a full belly. You can make a difference by volunteering your time or your financial resources.
Food for Change
Literally, you can provide food for a family with pocket change! A $1 donation to Never Alone can purchase $9 worth of food as a result of a partnership with the Atlanta Community Food Bank. A $50 donation to Never Alone will help feed a local Cherokee County family for a month. Remember, nearly a third of students in Cherokee County qualify for free and reduced lunches through the schools. This is a real need within our county.
Atlanta Community Food Bank Grant
The Jay Weaver Food Pantry, a ministry of the Heritage Presbyterian Church in Acworth, recently received a grant from the Atlanta Community Food Bank. This grant will allow the food bank, which has been serving the community since the 1980s to extend its reach with the help of a delivery van and freezer. Contact the food bank for more information on how you can get involved and help!
Single Mom Workshops
The Super Bowl may be what families across the country tune into, but we didn’t want to leave out the families headed by single moms. Serenade Heights recognizes that these moms usually need a little extra support in specific areas and skills. As a result a six part series of workshops is being offered to assist single mothers within our community. The series is titled, “Unlock the Keys to Success,” and will be covering a varieity of topics that all parents and particularly single moms should be aware of. Topics include basic car mechanics, financial education, and organization help. This workshop series is free and a light dinner and childcare is provided. Please help get the word out for this event, perhaps by sharing the recipe above!
Enjoy your game day!
