Whether you dread it or not, most people are familiar with Black Friday. This traditional start of the holiday shopping season takes place on the day after Thanksgiving each year. While some avoid this day and the hubbub that goes with it like the plague, others are standing in line in the wee hours of the morning anticipating deals that may seem too good to be true.
This year, we wanted to remind you to keep in mind that the Saturday after Thanksgiving is beginning to grow in popularity as well. A growing group of small business owners is encouraging you and other shoppers to take advantage of Small Business Saturday. This is in conjunction with the #shopsmall campaign. Check with your favorite locally owned businesses to find out if they participate in Small Business Saturday.
By supporting local small businesses, you are helping to support the local economy. While the purchases you make may not seem to add up much, the Shop Small Towne Lake Facebook page states that, “If each of us spent $100 a year more on local businesses, instead of chain stores, it would put an extra $3 million a year into our economy, not only that but it would create thousands more jobs every year.”
This year, plan ahead to take advantage of Small Business Saturday. You can take advantage further by participating in the American Express Shop Small initiative. When you spend $10 you can get $10 back up to three times.
Make sure to visit the local advertisers in the Towne Lake Magazine and let us know how your Shop Small Saturday shopping goes by sharing with #shopsmall on Facebook, Twitter, and Google +. Happy shopping!
