Shopping with Fall Flavor

October 22, 2010

I try to use canvas shopping bags whenever I can in an effort to Go Green.  I’ve got a ton of bags from all over the place with different store logos but all in all, they’re pretty plain.  Since our recent visit to Mercier Apple Orchard in Blueridge,  we had a lot of yummy Cameo apples to eat  and decided to use some of them to spruce up our shopping bags and give them a little taste of Fall!

Apple Stamp Canvas Bags

What You’ll need:

  • Fabric Bag (canvas or cloth shopping bag)
  • Newspaper
  • Fabric Paint (Red, Green, & Brown for design shown)
  • Paint Brush
  • Apples

Directions:

Place a few sheets of folded newspaper inside the bag,  Lay the bag flat and make sure the newspaper is laying flat inside so it will stop the paint from seeping through.

With a brush, use brown paint to paint the tree stem. Let dry.

Cut an apple in half horizontally.  These Apple halves are your “leaf” stamps.  Brush a thin layer of green paint on the apple stamp with a brush, and stamp on the bag to make the tree leaves.  Let dry.

Cut an apple in half vertically.  These apple halves are your “apple” stamps.  Brush a thin layer of red paint on the apple stamp with a brush, and stamp on the bag to give your tree some juicy red fruit!

make it your own:

Make it a family tree! Once your apple tree dries,  let your kids paint their family self portraits on each apple or let them write their names.
