Scarecrows Invade on Main

October 8, 2015

Fall is filled with pumpkin and spice and everything scary, well that doesn’t rhyme. However there are scary, and silly, and creative scarecrows of every shape and size lining the streets of downtown Woodstock.

We’ll let you be the judge of which ones you think are the scariest, silliest, or most creative. All you have to do is visit downtown Woodstock where fall comes alive along the sides of the streets. Scarecrows from clubs, businesses, and organizations line the street every fall. With cornstalks, overalls, flannel shirts, and all of the traditional scarecrow fixings (plus a few creative twists), these scarecrows are hard to miss.

Why are they invading downtown, you ask? This is part of a fall tradition and the result of the Main Street Woodstock initiative. Visitors have the chance to vote for their favorite scarecrow with their wallets. It is only $1 per vote to enter your favorite scarer in the runnings, and all proceeds raised from the Scarecrow Invasion will be donated to the non-profit GROW. With the clever acronym for Green Reaps Opportunity for Woodstock, GROW helps to  beautify the downtown with holiday decor. Votes for the scarecrows in the Scarecrow Invasion help to fund their initiatives.

Voting for your favorite scarecrow may be completed at the Woodstock Visitor’s Center located in the historic Dean’s Store on Main Street.

For a preview of the scarecrows, take a look at the TowneLaker Magazine’s video and visit our Facebook page to see a few pictures that we’ll be sharing from a recent visit. Of course, we have our own favorite here at AroundAbout Local Media, but we may be a little biased!
