Think you make the best salsa in town? Here is your chance to prove it. Enter your homemade salsa recipe in the River Church Farmers Market Salsa Challenge 2013 on Tuesday, June 30th. At the regular weekly Farmers Market at 2335 Sixes Rd. in Canton. Proceeds from the event will benefit the North Georgia Angel House.
If eating salsa is more your style, come enjoy a fiesta of food, music and entertainment right here in Cherokee county, while supporting a worthwhile cause.
No matter your style, traditional or fusion, all are welcome. There will be two primary categories: fresh and preserved/canned. The primary stipulation is that your salsa be homemade. Entries must include a recipe card with contact information and be labeled mild, medium, or hot. You should prepare a one quart container in order to provide enough of your magical recipe for the judging panel, made up of three local community members and the taster’s choice voting which will be made up of attendees of the event. Multiple entries are allowed.
In addition to bragging rights, the winner in each of the two major categories will receive $25 in “Market Bucks, which can be used at the Farmers Market. The people’s choice winner will receive a River Church Farmers Market Produce and Gift Basket. Tasting and judging will begin at 3:00 pm, so entrants should have their salsa at the welcome tent between 2:00 and 2:45. The top 3 winners in each category will move on to the final round to be held at Jasper Farmers Market at a gala celebration between River Church, Waleska and Jasper Farmers Markets.
The community tasting requests a $1 donation with proceeds benefiting North Georgia Angel House.
The goal of North Georgia Angel House, located in Canton, is to give girls living in their residential facility, the skills necessary to become successful adults. They do this by teaching life skills such as money management, conflict resolution, time management, menu planning, family planning, resume writing, employment skills and many others workshops to help them reach self-sufficiency.
