Rejection Turns Deadly: Woman Murdered by Man She Met on Dating App

A Georgia man will spend the rest of his life behind bars for brutally killing a woman who rejected his obsessive, romantic entreaties. On Tuesday, Antonio Wilson, 43, was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole for the June 2019 murder of Fabiola Thomas, 39.

The case, prosecuted as a domestic violence incident by the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office, revealed that Wilson and Thomas had only dated briefly before the tragic event. Despite her precautions, including informing friends of her whereabouts and meeting Wilson only in public places, Thomas fell victim to Wilson’s escalating obsession.

Thomas and Wilson met on a dating app, and while Wilson quickly developed intense feelings, Thomas did not reciprocate. In a text message sent to Wilson the day before her murder, Thomas explicitly rejected him, stating, “I don’t give a [redacted] about a ring. Keep your ring, I’m not your woman, never was, stop claiming me because I never claimed you.”

On June 8, 2019, Wilson tracked Thomas to her residence at the Atlantic Newtown Apartments in Roswell, Georgia. He broke into her home and strangled her, leaving her body in the bathtub. The attack occurred early in the morning as Thomas was getting ready for work. Her roommate found her body and called the police, initially describing the scene as a mystery.

Wilson was charged with malice murder and arrested in October 2019. During the trial, prosecutors presented evidence showing Wilson’s obsessive behavior and his presence at the crime scene. Witnesses and crime scene photographs supported the prosecution’s case, leading the jury to deliberate for just 30 minutes before finding Wilson guilty.

Assistant District Attorney Abigail Potter emphasized that Thomas had taken all the recommended precautions when dating someone new. “Ms. Thomas did everything that you would think you should do,” Potter said. Despite these precautions, Wilson’s obsession led to a tragic and unnecessary death.

Senior Assistant District Attorney Nalda Charles described the chilling details of the crime, highlighting the brutality and senselessness of the act. “It was just so egregious. It was unnecessary, it didn’t have to happen. She was unarmed, defenseless, and in her home, all because she said no,” Charles stated.

During the sentencing hearing, Thomas’ family and friends expressed their grief and the impact of her loss. “My sister was attacked and murdered in her home,” said her brother, Myrto Charles. “My sister enjoyed and loved life. She had dreams and goals she wanted to accomplish, yet that all died with her, when she was gasping for her last breath.”

Emotions ran high as loved ones remembered Thomas. “Her life mattered,” one mourner said through tears. “She lived with purpose.”
