Olympic snowboarder Sophie Hediger died in an accident at a Swiss ski resort at the age of 26.
According to the release from the Swiss-Ski Federation, Knewz.com can tell that the athlete was caught in an avalanche at the ski resort.
In a statement, Swiss-Ski CEO Walter Reusser said: “We are deeply saddened and sending our sympathies to Sophie’s family.
Sophie Hediger’s untimely death has cast a pall on the Swiss ski family’s Christmas celebrations. We are so depressed. Sophie will live on in our memories with honor.
The athlete celebrated her 26th birthday on December 14, just nine days before her tragic death.
A snowboarder died after an avalanche while backcountry skiing on Monday, according to authorities. Her identity was not made public at the time, but it was discovered two hours after rescue services were called.
The 26-year-old went into the Black Diamond run, which was reportedly blocked at the time owing to avalanche risk, with another snowboarder, according to the Graubden cantonal police.
Emergency personnel, experts with specialized canines, and the Swiss Air Rescue found Hediger’s body and declared her dead on the spot.
Hediger’s family and boyfriend requested that no more information regarding her untimely death be made public, and Swiss-Ski complied.
Before the terrible event, Switzerland was reportedly receiving a lot of snowfall.
Hediger took part in the Winter Olympics in Beijing in 2022.
She participated in a number of competitions, such as the snowboard cross for women.
She placed second twice in World Cup tournaments in 2023–2024.

The 26-year-old’s admirers commented on her last Instagram post.
It read, “Rest in peace, queen.”
