But we’re incredibly proud of Clark Creek Elementary School!
We’ve acknowledged that our elementary school systems are impressive, but we’d like to take a moment to acknowledge Clark Creek Elementary School for being a leader in our STEM program. There are only 11 STEM-certified elementary schools in Georgia, two of them being our Clark Creek and Holly Springs elementary school. How fortunate are we that our children have such a head start with their education?
For those who may not know what a STEM education is, STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. A STEM education means using practical, hands-on learning to heighten their problem solving abilities resulting in a higher chance at achieving “real world” success.
A STEM certification is no easy feat. It took almost 3 years of collaboration between educators, the school system, community partners, and parents to make this happen. The process has 15 various components that the state reviews including: technology integration, teacher collaboration, math and science instruction, STEM competitions and community partnerships (Georgia Tech being one of them).
2015 was clearly a great year for Clark Creek, in addition to gaining their STEM certification, they were also selected as the 2015 Georgia Project WET (Water Education for Teachers) School of the year! On top of that, one of their teachers was one of only eight educators statewide to be honored with the 2014-15 Georgia Innovation in Teaching Competition winners for creativity in the classroom!
So far the 2015-16 school year is just as promising as it’s predecessors. Many of their students placed in first at the Piedmont Regional Technology Fair and are now headed to state with an equally impressive amount placing second and third at regionals! Their Robotics team, the Brickmasters, did a great job at the State Championship Tournament at Georgia Tech recently, too!
Keep it up, y’all! We’re so proud of all that you’ve done and will continue to watch, support and brag about you.
