An Alabama man, Elvis Dewayne Henderson, was arrested Thursday morning in Mississippi after prosecutors allege he broke into an elderly woman’s house and attempted to rape her. The incident occurred in June 2023, and Henderson has now been indicted by the Mobile County Grand Jury on charges of Attempted Rape, Burglary 2nd, Robbery 3rd, and Elder Abuse 2nd.
The harrowing event unfolded when Henderson allegedly broke into the home of the elderly victim, where he proceeded to beat and attempt to sexually assault her. The woman’s cries for help were heard by a neighbor, who rushed to her aid and managed to remove Henderson from the property, potentially saving her life.
“This kind of violence against our most vulnerable citizens will not be tolerated,” said Keith Blackwood, Mobile County District Attorney. “We will prosecute Mr. Henderson to the fullest extent of the law.”
Following the incident, Henderson was swiftly apprehended by authorities. He was given a $30,000 bond for the Attempted Rape 1st charge, $20,000 for the Burglary 2nd charge, $10,000 for the Robbery 3rd charge, and $20,000 for the Elder Abuse charge.
The DA Task Force, in collaboration with the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office, Mobile Police Department, and the U.S. Marshals, played a crucial role in Henderson’s arrest. This task force works to expedite the apprehension and prosecution of defendants who have been secretly indicted, ensuring that justice is served promptly.
The swift intervention by the neighbor and the subsequent arrest of Henderson highlight the importance of community vigilance and the effectiveness of collaborative law enforcement efforts in addressing serious crimes. The case also underscores the commitment of the Mobile County District Attorney’s Office to protect vulnerable populations and pursue justice rigorously.
