A 19-year-old man was killed Thursday evening after being hit by a police cruiser in the Spring Grove Village area, according to a news release.
The man was identified as Amir Jordan, of Roselawn, in a report from the Hamilton County Coroner’s Office.
The Cincinnati Police Department’s Traffic Unit responded to the 4600 block of Este Avenue just before 6 p.m. to investigate a serious injury crash.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a Cincinnati officer was driving a 2021 Ford Explorer, a police cruiser with activated lights and sirens, en route to an emergency call.
While the officer was traveling northbound on Este Avenue near Chickering Avenue, a 19-year-old man crossed the street westbound into the path of the vehicle.
The man was hit by the police cruiser and sustained serious injuries.
He was transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center for treatment but ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The officer was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash and was not injured.

The Cincinnati FOP Queen City Lodge, the union that represents the Cincinnati Police Department, said in a Facebook post the officer was responding to the report of a shooting.
The man “attempted to cross a street in front of a Metro bus, far from any crosswalk, and was hit by the police cruiser,” the union said in the post.
The union added that the officer quickly stopped his cruiser after hitting the man, radioed for a medic, and attempted to render aid.
“Police officers take as much care as possible when they’re responding to a reported shooting with their lights and sirens on,” union President Ken Kober said in the post. “The Cincinnati FOP and its members are praying for the young man who was hit and for the officer involved.”
