Cleaning Hacks

May 19, 2016

Summers are for weekends on the lake, summer camps and just having FUN. It’s a great feeling to come home from a weekend getaway to a nice, clean house. We all know everyone in the family appreciates this, not just mom.

However, no one wants to spend more time cleaning than necessary. So in order to help you maximize your fun time, we’ve gotten together a few tried and true cleaning hacks. Got some of your own? Let us know! Add them in the comments section.

Clean your washer with vinegar

*Older top loading machines: Select the HOT water cycle, add 3 cups of vinegar (nothing else) let sit for 30 minutes then run it for the longest cycle.white vinegar

*Newer top loading machines: Select the clean setting, add 2 cups of vinegar to the dispenser (nothing else) then run the cleaning cycle.

*Front loading machines: Add 1-2 cups of vinegar to the dispenser, select the largest setting and HOT water then run the cycle. Once the cycle is complete, wipe down the drum and seal.

*To keep it clean longer, leave the door open once the cycle completes for at least an hour so that the water can evaporate and not get trapped.

We’re not kidding! Spray some directly on your appliance, or into a rag (we recommend this so it won’t  spray the floor) and wipe away. Clean, streak-free AND leaves a layer of protectant. Be careful though: it is petroleum based so we recommend wiping down nearby countertops afterward to ensure no residue makes it way onto your food.

Got a carpet or mattress stain? Try this mixture!

Mix one part Dawn dish detergent and two parts hydrogen peroxide (amounts vary, determine based on smagicize of stain)  and pour directly on the stain. If it’s a mattress and you feel as though you need a little grit, sprinkle some baking soda on top, then use a rag or soft bristled toothbrush to scrub the area. Once you feel as though you’ve scrubbed enough, let it sit until dry. Once it’s dry your stain should be gone!

Or you feel you need some with your spring cleaning, need a break -what ever the reason, we have some fantastic cleaning services in our directory such as MiniMaid, Rejoice Maids, Dynamic Clean Team (404-414-7743) and Amy’s Professional Cleaning.
