Cherokee County Animal Shelter Takes on 2013 ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge

May 29, 2013

Rachael Ray - ASPCA $100K ChallengeBeginning June 1st, Cherokee County Animal Shelter will be a contestant in the 2013 ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge.

The 2013 ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge is a nationwide competition for animal shelters (and their communities) aimed at getting more animals adopted or returned to their owners than ever before.

Cherokee County Animal Shelter has enlisted the help of the Cherokee County Sheriff and Cherokee County Fire Department in their fight against pet homelessness to gain community engagement in hopes of winning a special $25,000 prize.  Each of the departments has created a t-shirt to sell during the three month contest to raise funds and gain support for the animal shelter.  The T-shirts are on sale at Cherokee County Animal Shelter (located on Univeter Rd.) now and through the end of August.  (Each shirt is $10 – cash or check accepted).

The Historic Downtown Canton Theater is partnering with Cherokee County Animal Shelter to celebrate “Second Chance Dogs” and “Sassy Cats” with a 20th Anniversary Showing of Disney’s “Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey” on Friday, May 31st at 7:30pm.  Admission is FREE with a donation of any brand/size DRY dog or cat food or clay (non-clumping) cat litter.  This is an event the whole family can enjoy and help spread the word about the great pets available for adoption at the shelter.

Cherokee County Animal Shelter is also hosting an adopt-a-thon to kick off the challenge and offering ALL animals over 1 year of age for FREE adoption on Saturday June 1st from 10am – 8pm .  All of the normal services will be provided with the adoption (spay/neuter, microchip, initial vaccinations, flea/tick treatment, deworming, free office visit at local area veterinarian, sample bag of Hills Science Diet Pet Food).  Free adoptions are limited to ONE per household and will be provided on a first come, first serve basis.
