If you’re having a “Stay-cation” next week during the school fall break, why not spend some time with some really cute animals? The Cherokee County Animal Shelter will be hosting some educational events during the fall break for parents and children.
Tuesday September 21, 11 am: Students will meet animal control officer Derrick Lawrence (and staff member, Marsha Anderson) and participate in a SAFE Kids interactive animal safety activity.
Wednesday September 22, 11 am- Noon: Students will see a dog training demonstration by the Shelter Friends trainer. CCAS dogs are trained by volunteers to be well mannered companions when they are adopted into their forever homes. A brief walking tour of the facility will also be provided. Shelter Friends Volunteers will serve juice and cookies. Hot dogs will be on sale for $1 each.
Thursday September 23, 11 am: Join us for a Read-to-me Read-a-thon with local children’s author, Margie Carroll. Signed copies of Margie’s books will be available for purchase. Lots of dogs and cats are waiting to enjoy special attention and hear children’s voices.
Volunteers will be on hand for assistance during the events but children must be accompanied by a parent to participate. Cherokee County Animal Shelter is located across the street from Kenny Askew Park and next door to the Senior Center at 1015 Univeter Rd in Canton.
