The hosts of the MSNBC show, Joe Scarborough, 61, and Mika Brzezinski, 57, faced criticism for their attempt to “restart communications” with Trump by visiting his Mar-a-Lago resort, according to Knewz.com.
However, after being accused of pursuing “ratings,” the hosts brushed off the criticism, claiming it only demonstrated the “massive disconnect” between “social media and the real world.”
Scarborough stated: “We received a constant stream of phone calls from people all over the world yesterday, all of whom were very encouraging and supportive, saying things like, ‘I understand what you did.’ This made me realize for the first time how much of a disconnect there was between social media and the real world.”
“However, occasionally I would receive a text or phone call saying, ‘Oh, man, I hope you’re doing okay.'” I would give them another call. “Are you on Twitter?” I would ask. So he says, ‘I am.’ ‘Well, I’m not, so we’ve had a good day,’ I would say.
“All of us will do the best we can do and we’re all working towards a better America.”
One of the media personalities who lambasted the couple’s weekend visit during an on-air diatribe was 52-year-old Ana Navarro of The View.
During her tirade, the political strategist attacked the married MSNBC anchors for their “opportunistic” trip to visit Trump. It was her question if the two had “change(d) their stripes” due to “who’s in power.”
Scarborough and Brzezinski were also criticized by Megyn Kelly, 54, of the MAGA side, who told them to “f–k themselves.”
As she reminded her viewers, “Go f–k yourselves, you dishonest jokes of faux journalists,” the Morning Joe hosts had originally backed Trump’s presidential campaign in 2016.
“It is nauseating, it’s so stomach-turning,” she continued. They’re really repulsive.
Kelly went on to say that Scarborough pulled out of Trump’s campaign after he “found out he was not gonna be the vice presidential running mate.”
“He had been rejected for that position and they turned, they turned on Trump because access to power is everything to that small, little man,” stated the former Fox News and NBC News star.
Nikki Haley, a 52-year-old former Republican presidential candidate, stated: “To be clear, Joe and Mika didn’t suddenly see the light; they noticed their ratings. They understood that Trump was essential to their survival.
Despite the negative reaction, Morning Joe employees have maintained that the Florida meeting was “f—ing worth it.”
According to Trump, he attended the meeting because he believes that having a free, fair, and open press is essential to “making America great again.”
Since the Republican Party entered politics, the relationship between the 78-year-old business mogul and the Morning Joe stars has been tense, and Scarborough left the party as a result.
Morning Joe regularly called Trump a racist, sexist, and fascist during the 2024 race, telling viewers he wasn’t worthy of being president.
Scarborough criticized Trump for becoming “full-on Hitler” at one point, while Brzezinski denounced him for using the “dangerous language of infamous fascist leaders.”
They chose to contact Trump for “the opportunity to speak with the President-elect, himself” on Monday, according to Brzezinski, because their viewers and “regular citizens” had been afraid of Trump since his election and his recent cabinet choices.
Scarborough went on to state that the three “talked about a lot of issues, including abortion, mass deportation, threats of political retribution against political opponents and media outlets.”
