A 19-year-old Marietta resident has been arrested in connection with a series of 70 car break-ins that plagued neighborhoods in Cobb County over the past five weeks. Christopher Emerson, who police allege was part of a crew responsible for these thefts, now faces significant legal consequences.
The break-ins, which occurred randomly across various locations and typically on a nightly basis, involved the theft of valuables from parked vehicles. Among the stolen items were at least three firearms. The Marietta Police Department, led by Public Information Officer Chuck McPhilamy, executed search warrants at Emerson’s residence last week. During the search, law enforcement uncovered a substantial cache of stolen property, including numerous credit and debit cards, as well as a significant quantity of trafficked cocaine.
Emerson’s arrest is particularly noteworthy given his previous criminal record. He was already out on bond for a series of similar crimes committed earlier this year. According to McPhilamy, Emerson had been apprehended by the same agency in February in connection with another string of over 30 car break-ins.
The recent surge in break-ins left residents in shock. Reggie Myers, a local resident from one of the affected neighborhoods, described the scene as chaotic, noting, “There was glass everywhere. That’s crazy because I’ve been here for many years, and nothing like that has ever happened here.”
Emerson now faces 18 felony charges related to the recent break-ins, in addition to the charges from his previous offenses. He is currently being held without bond at the Cobb County Detention Center as the investigation continues.
